We are mourning the death by COVID-19 of Sabas Nanco, a faithful Seguidor de la Cruz (Follower of the Cross). With his wife and children, we look to the final victory in Jesus Christ who will raise our mortal bodies to be like His. Until that last day we fight the good fight and call each other to hope in the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus the Lord.
Sabas and his wife Matilde
Sabas was a medical doctor who served in the equivalent of the social security hospital. In Reynosa he served on the front lines of the pandemic for eight months before contracting the virus. As his health deteriorated, he knew that the equipment and technical training for intubation was lacking in our state of Tamaulipas. He was finally sent to the ward where he knew he would be intubated and abandoned his life to the Lord knowing that his unlikely recovery would be attributed to the Lord alone, otherwise he would succumb to the infirmity. Please pray with us for his family.
Our Bishop, Eugenio Andres, celebrated Mass with the Seguidores de la Cruz several years back. Sabas and Matilde are in the front row on the right, next to the bishop.
